Moving into my brick-and-mortar space 6 years ago was the highlight of my life. 😭🙌🏽
Looking around the warehouse kitchen tonight, I can’t help but reflect on the endless days of door knocking, backyard barbecues, bridal shows, baby showers, and running order drop-offs to local beauty and barber shops. Long before social media even existed, I was out there passing out flyers, hand-distributing mini catalogs I created myself, hosting private home shows, and taking orders over the phone.
Back then, I was selling body oils in every single scent just to make sure I could take care of my small son. Every single ounce of that hustle paid off.
But as time progressed, I noticed the market getting saturated with people selling oils. That’s when I learned the art of the pivot. 🌀
I expanded my hobby into body lotions and fragrance sprays. My creative juices started flowing, and I remembered everything I used to see while my grandmother, Ella Mae, was in her kitchen baking. The flour, the sugars, the milks, the flavors, the colors... I remember bursting open a bag of sugar, running my hands through it, and imagining what I could do with all that sweetness!
One by one, the GSO Sugar Scrubs came into existence. 🧴✨ I couldn’t stop making them, and over time, the recipe just kept getting better and better. 30 years of mixing and blending gave me all the experience I thought I’d ever need. I went out, bought a simple hand mixer and a recipe tablet, and wrote down every single batch that was made.
But the art of pivoting never stops. Lately, I’ve been looking around and seeing the market becoming saturated all over again. I know there’s enough room for everyone to win, but my mindset has always been to be a trendsetter. I love new. I love different. I love better.
I have made a lot of mistakes along the way. Thank God that’s how we learn. Some of the most hurtful mistakes can make you believe it's going to end you and everything you’ve worked for, but I promise you, if you accept the teachable moments, they always turn into something more beautiful. Growing pains hurt like hell, but the end game is so worth it!
It is time for GSO to pivot again... and what we are loading next is closer to my heart than ever before.
Everything is changing yet again, and I am letting the Universe use me in every beneficial way it sees fit! I am still here, ready for the next chapter!
